A common question we get asked about the PowerBall® MIG welding gun is why there is a power cable at the rear connection on the gun. The answer? As with the entire PowerBall® design, this jumper cable is there to improve conductivity of course! The cable features an ultrasonically welded copper lug, with consolidated copper wire instead of separate strands of wire seen in crimped cable lugs. This both enhances conductivity and helps reduce shorts that can occur inside the wire feeder.

Traditional MIG gun designs draw power through the power pin (referred to as the feeder adapter on PowerBall® guns). This is not ideal, as the current is negatively affected by electrical resistance in the drive roll assembly on the feeder. Additionally, power pins are typically made out of brass, a poor electrical conductor. With the PowerBall® power cable, the welding gun is drawing current straight from the power source through an all-copper connection, maximizing conductivity and providing faster, smoother arc starts.

Wire Wizard's headquarters and manufacturing facilities in Jackson, MI were hit by the worst ice storm in Michigan in 50 years last week. This resulted in an extended power outage that knocked out both our power and phone systems Wednesday evening through Saturday (2/22-2/25).
