A structural steel fabrication company utilizing 500 amp welding guns with long torch necks and 25' cables was seeking a better solution in a high heat, long duty cycle application. Their current welding guns had poor consumable life and required a cover over the neck to shield welders from the excessive heat buildup while welding. Seeking to improve operator comfort and welding performance, they made the decision to try out the PowerBall® 500 amp MIG gun.

As with any high amperage, long duty cycle application, a high amount of heat is generated at the arc. To help combat this, a heat spring was developed for long torch necks commonly utilized in these extreme conditions. Throughout the trial, the superior cooling of the PowerBall® guns along with the spring significantly reduced heat exposure so welders could handle the neck without having to stop welding often to let the gun cool down. Additionally, the improved conductivity and welding performance of the PowerBall® MIG gun design resulted in 4X the consumable life they were getting with the previous welding guns they were using. Impressed with the improved performance and innovative technology, the facility made the decision to phase out their old welding guns and replace them with the PowerBall® 500 amp models.

POWERBALL® HEAT SPRING
The new PowerBall® Heat Spring (part # WTP-NS-S-1) is designed to reduce heat exposure in high heat and long duty cycle applications. It creates a pocket of air around the neck for better heat dissipation than solutions that cover t he entire neck. Compatible with long and extra long neck lengths.
POWERBALL® REPLACEMENT CONSUMABLES
While phasing out their current MIG guns, the facility converted them to use PowerBall® Replacement Consumables. This allowed the use of the same consumables throughout the facility and increased consumable life on their existing MIG guns. In this application, replacement consumables for a Tweco® Classic 500 amp MIG gun were used (part # WTP-TWD-PB-1).

Now compatible with additional robot makes and models! PowerBall® High Performance Robotic Torches are engineered to provide maximum conductivity with increased consumable life. The innovative torch design provides a higher amperage output than traditional air-cooled MIG welding torches, resulting in an energy efficient torch that can take on demanding welding applications with less heat build-up, increased consumable life and reduced spatter. The torches feature a modular uni-cable design that may be flipped to extend cable life, and a modular rotation piece for easy changeover from 220° to full 360° rotation. Proudly Made in USA.
